This is part of a shaft loom that was made in the late eighteenth century in Southeastern Pennsylvania and used there for over two hundred years. The cleat fastens to the side frames of the loom to hold the seat for the weaver. The position of the seat can be adjusted by attaching the cleat to the frame with a different hole.
